We saw the coolest clouds this morning on the road. Black and heavy...this is just one pic of many.
We spent a pleasant morning exploring the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. The boys loved the four minute tram ride to the top. It was windy And we could feel the sway as we looked over the city. A bit unnerving but worth it for the view.
Then it was over to the old courthouse, an historic site for the Underground Railroad.
We had lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory and back on the road by 1. Notice the pic of the boys at Lucas Ave.
We'll soon be in Springfield MO.

Day 2 Cloudy with a Chance of Goofballs
We're loving' the time change...it means we got to sleep a bit longer and still be on the road by 6:30. Here's the view from the window...
We'll be in St. Louis in around 2 or 3 hours... And soon enough onto Route 66 ( now I-40).

Terre Haute, IN
We spent the night in the Hoosier State. Just what is a Hoosier?? Not too sure. After a brief stint in Illinois we'll breeze through Missouri and on into Oklahoma.
Biggest surprise in Indiana? They have a bit of a drawl here....but not in The north state.

Columbus Ohio from the Road
Well, we are truly on the road with a solid afternoon behind us. Lots of bickering in the backseat, but at the moment both boys have blankets over their heads so they can play video games without interference from the sun. It was windy as we left today almost as though we were being blown out of town. Hard to leave the house, but now we're onto the adventure.

Boys
There is a whole lot of crazy at our house. Jaden is working on a project that required taking his picture with his Legos. Lucas got to sit in the cockpit on our ride home from Winnipeg a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't convince him to sit in the pilot seat until I reminded him that Jaden would see the picture!

Dharma & Greg
Oooo....I just read that Dharma and Greg (a sitcom from the late 90s) was set in SF! I think I'd make a good Dharma to Tyson's Greg (or would it be my Greg to Tys's Dharma??)
The Many Names of My Blog
My Blogging activity always peaks around moving time. That I am writing today should be very telling to anyone who happens to get notifications about new posts.
Clan McCann is heading out to the Wild West!! Well, not so wild really. I'll have to think of a catchy new name for the blog. So far ....
2005 - Hawaii O-five
2007 - The Shuffle to Buffalo
2011 - The Streets of San Fran? Not sure I love it yet. Will research some SF songs and see if I find something. Feel free to suggest.
Wish me luck on this regular blogging again thing.

January 2011 - Christmas is Over?!?
Hi there! Happy New Year!! Hard to believe, but life returns to "normal" at the McCann household today. Jaden is back to school, Lucas is at the sitters, and Tyson and I are back at work.
It was a very relaxing and fun family holiday. We stayed home and played this year, which actually was really quite nice.
The boys had a wonderful Christmas and loved all of their presents. Santa's visit was of course exciting. Jaden woke Lucas up on Christmas morning (at 6:00 a.m.!). At first, Tyson and I only heard Luke kind of moan in complaint. But, once Jaden said the magic word ("presents"), we heard Luke say "Presents? YAY!" and run out of his room. Then it was chaos. Fun, but chaos.
Jaden was incredibly appreciative this year. With every present, he said "YES!", or if it was from Tyson and I, he ran over and gave us a big hug and kiss. It was really sweet, and kind of unlike Jaden to be so demonstrative. Very sweet.
Tyson and I got a Flip this year (video camera), so it was fun to record some special moments. We'll be sure to share them when we can!

This Week's Fun!
Well, Jaden has successfully finished his first week of first grade. Here's a few of Jaden's answers to the usual questions...
His favorite subject? - "Rec" (i.e. recess)
Have you made any new friends? - "Yeah, lots, but I don't know their names."
Best part of the day? - "Going for lunch and Rec."
What did you sing in music class? - "Well, everyone else sang Wheels on the Bus, but I didn't feel like it."
Today on the playground, Jaden was asking about God and heaven....and then out of the blue he asked me "So, is God like the mayor of heaven?", and when I responded, "Something like that", Jaden then asked if he was more like a lawyer.
Lucas and I have enjoyed some time together while Jaden has been at school. Even with a two year old, the house is so quiet! Little Lucas loves to dance, and every day we have a short dance party!
Today we enjoyed a day at home, where between fights, Jaden and Lucas actually played together and helped me get the housework done....now that's progress!

Life on Knox
Well, it's been a bit of a challenging summer with Tyson gone and so many changes to our schedule, but it's also been fun! Next week Jaden will start school and though I can see some relief on the way, I'm going to miss our big guy around the house!
Lucas is growing by leaps and bounds. He loves music, dancing, and singing and often spontaneously rocks out. He has a wicked "ninja pose" (see photo) and can often be seen wearing a plastic fire helmet or safari hat. He's quick as a whip, can already count to 7 or 8 and knows most of the alphabet...and he's one of the most strong-willed children I know. Then again he's also 2 1/2.
Lucas is able to speak in nearly full sentences (he's standing beside me saying "mommy, I wants apple juice". He loves books and sits down to pretend read them for a long time, pointing at the words and pictures and making things up. Usually with his legs crossed.
Jaden has now lost both of his front teeth, but there's a picture of him with one missing. Too cute. Right now he looks like a hockey player. The other day Jaden said to me "mommy, I would fight a thousand monsters to protect you" out of the blue, and my heart just melted.
Jaden is mostly reading on his own, when I can convince him to slow down enough to read a bit. He's going to be starting basketball at the YMCA in a couple of weeks (his choice!) so I know we'll be burning off all of his extra energy. He's enjoying his new bunk bed in his room, as we've moved his old bed into Luke's room (I'm not brave enough to try putting Luke into that bed however!)

Summer Fun
Our little Jaden is starting first grade next week. I think tonight I was feeling a bit nostalgic about our summer and all the fun we had...here's a taste of our summer travels. By no means complete, it's at least a taste of some of the things we've done this year.

Jaden Lost his First Tooth
Not too much new to report in the McCann household. Tyson and I are very busy trying to get work done. The boys surprise us every day.
Lucas is a little trouble maker, though really we wouldn't want it any other way. He speaks quite clearly - favorite words? Bus. No. Cartoon. Cookie. :)
Jaden did lose his first tooth last night, and was very excited about the tooth fairy having paid him a visit. The tooth has probably been ready for about two weeks to come out, but he didn't want to pull it. Last night I could see it was going to come out over night, so daddy did the deed. :)

I Know. I Suck.
Hey all!
Okay, so it's been nearly 10 months since I've last posted. Obviously if I were any of you, I wouldn't keep reading. But I will try to put up pictures more regularly! I promise! I'll even start right now.
This is Luke and Jaden in August - before Luke's first haircut. We had a great and busy summer, but you'll have to wait to hear about it (complete with pictures!) because I only had a few minutes today to post something.
Hope all is well!

Halloween
Here are some pictures of the boys taken in October.
A funny story that I'll relate quickly. Yesterday I gave Jaden a time out for not listening to me. He came out of his room in shorts and a T-shirt declaring he was going to take a vacation from time out. When I asked him why he was in shorts, he said "Well, my vacation is in Hawaii, I need shorts there. They haven't invented (pronounced ee-vented) it there yet.".
A little while later, the house was feeling warm - someone had turned up the heat to 72. I asked Jaden why he did that, and he told me "Because it's hot in Hawaii".
